Dr. Rachel Brown is skilled in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric ocular disease, strabismus, amblyopia, refractive conditions, pediatric injuries and emergencies affecting the eye, and congenital conditions with ocular sequelae. She is experienced at evaluating the visual system of children of all ages and has cared for pediatric patients with special needs, developmental delays, and learning disorders.
Dr. Brown, originally from the small town of Floyds Knobs, IN, graduated with a B.S. degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology from Indiana University in 2010 and was on the Dean’s List all 4 years. She received her Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University (IUSO) in 2014. While at IUSO, Dr. Brown served as a clinical instructor and worked for a pediatric optometrist. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society, a volunteer and the Event Coordinator for Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH), and Unite for Sight Volunteer Organizations during optometry school.
Following optometry school, Dr. Brown went on to complete a residency in Pediatric Ocular Disease in July 2015 at Pediatric Eye Specialists. Dr. Brown is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians.
Dr. Brown also went on two mission trips to Guanajuato, Mexico where she helped serve over 4,000 people in need. During Dr. Brown’s mission work she witnessed the lifelong impact eye care can have on a patient’s life. Her experiences have drawn her to pediatrics, where she believes early intervention and compassionate eye care ensures a better quality of life for the patient.
“My passion for optometry makes me incredibly driven to provide the best vision care for each of my patients as if they were part of my own family. I have been drawn to working with kids in that I truly value the relationship I gain with the child and their family. I feel privileged to be able to care for a child’s vision and appreciate the trust the family places in me.”
