Dr. Shelton has over 20 years of experience specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Originally from Washington, D.C., Dr. Shelton attended Howard University where she finished with a degree in Chemical Engineering. It was at Howard University where she met her husband, who was studying mechanical engineering. After graduating from college, they got married, and relocated to Michigan for his job with Ford Motor Company. After moving to Michigan, Dr. Shelton decided to go to medical school and completed her degree at University of Michigan and finished her internship at Henry Ford Hospital. She went on to finish her residency at Harlem Hospital in New York and her Glaucoma Fellowship in Baltimore, Maryland.
After practicing for several years in Virginia within a multi-specialty group, they decided to gravitate south to be closer to family, thus allowing her the opportunity to join VisionAmerica. Primarily practicing glaucoma and cataract surgery, she has performed multiple glaucoma procedures including: Trabeculectomies, Ahmed Valves, Baerveldt Aqueous Drainage Devices, iStents, and the now recently discontinued Cypass stents. She has also been performing Cataract surgery using the Femtosecond Laser (LenSx), Multifocal/Accommodating IOLs, and Toric IOLs.
